Teacher Certification Programs

项目的目标

The Department offers teacher certification programs in 小学教育 和 中等教育.  Program requirements are in alignment with the Maryl和 Redesign of Teacher 教育. The Department has established Professional Development School (PDS) partnerships in local counties; this facilitates implementation of state requirements that each teacher c和idate complete 100 days of an extended internship in a PDS in two consecutive semesters, including the student teaching experience.

Entry Requirements for Certification Programs

  • 累积绩点3.0分(平均成绩3分).0 in the teaching field for secondary certification);
  • recommendation from a professor in the student’s major field of study (secondary only);
  • a Maryl和 passing score on one of the following exams (according to the most current Maryl和 state assessment requirements):
    • SAT:综合得分 (math 和 reading)
    • ACT:综合分数
    • GRE:综合成绩或
    • 实践的核心:综合得分
  • 及格的分数 实践II 5001:社会研究 & 科学(仅限基础).
  • approval of the 教育部门 Chair following a formal interview with the Chair 以及部门同事. The following are some of the personal 和 professional attributes that are considered for approval: maturity, oral 和 written communication skills, professional attitude, flexibility, initiative, collaboration, 和 overall potential to be successful in a teaching internship. (Please note: An interview for the 小学教育 Program will only be granted to students who meet ALL entry requirements.)

Applicants for the Teacher Certification Programs should realize that 教育部门 faculty may use any 和 all prior interactions, within the Department 和 in PDS field experiences, as input for program entry.

Admission to the elementary 和 secondary program generally occurs during the fall 大三的学期. (Where possible, the Department will make accommodations 对于“迟到者”).  Students should be aware that the Maryl和 State Department of 教育 requires a grade of “C” or better in all courses applied toward certification.

  • (Elementary) Complete 申请表 (link sent from the Department Chair) 和 submit as directed online by September 15th of your junior year.

Students will be recommended for Maryl和 Approved Program teacher certification when they successfully 1) earn an academic degree with a 累积绩点3.0分(和GPA) of 3.0 in their major for secondary certification); 2) complete the 九州娱乐官网 Teacher Certification Program; 3) complete national examinations according to Maryl和 st和ards, 4) complete an exit interview with the program Certification Administrator; 和 5) earn a grade of “B-” or better in EDU 405. 或EDU 413. 和414年.
